ToggleIntroduction: Designed for Evolving Industrial Connectivity Needs
As industrial environments become increasingly connected, gateways must integrate a wider range of equipment, including PLCs, sensors, meters, and CNC machines. They also need to handle data processing and system integration at the edge. To address these needs, IOTRouter has upgraded the EG8200 industrial edge computing gateway and introduced the EG8200 V2.
The new version keeps the original industrial communication, Node-RED visual programming, and remote management capabilities, while adding CNC protocol support and upgrading to a triple-core Cortex-A7 processor, Wi-Fi 6, an external Micro SD card slot, and a USB Type-C debugging interface.

1.1 Added CNC Protocol Support: Expanding Industrial Device Connectivity

In a machining workshop, CNC machines may run independently and remain outside the factory’s central monitoring system. Operators can check information on each CNC controller, but production managers often need that information in a centralized place to understand equipment utilization and production activity.
When a workshop uses CNC machines from different brands, integration becomes more complicated. Each controller may use different communication interfaces, protocols, and data structures, making standardized data collection difficult.
In addition to its existing PLC communication capabilities, the EG8200 V2 adds CNC protocol support. The new version supports selected CNC systems from Siemens, FANUC, Mitsubishi, Mazak, Haas, Heidenhain, and other manufacturers. The complete list of supported brands and models is available in the CNC protocol table in the EG8200 V2 specification. Depending on the controller model and available communication interface, the gateway can acquire supported CNC data for local processing and transmission to upper-level systems.
The same gateway can also communicate with supported PLCs and other industrial devices, allowing system integrators to bring different types of manufacturing data into a single integration workflow. By collecting operational data from compatible CNC equipment, the EG8200 V2 provides a data foundation for machine status monitoring, equipment utilization analysis, and production management.
CNC compatibility, available data points, and simultaneous connection capacity depend on the controller model, communication interface, and project configuration.
1.2 Triple-Core Processing: More Hardware Resources for Edge Computing
The original EG8200 already supports Node-RED visual programming. The V2 upgrades the processor from a dual-core A7 to a triple-core A7, while keeping the clock speed at 1.2 GHz. The EG8200 V2 continues the existing Node-RED edge processing capabilities and uses the triple-core processor to provide more CPU resources, offering hardware support for multi-protocol data acquisition, local logic processing, and data reporting.
For example, in an industrial equipment monitoring project, Node-RED can be used to collect PLC operating data, perform data filtering and format conversion, and then send the processed data to an industrial IoT platform via MQTT.
1.3 Maintenance-Friendly Design: External Micro SD and USB Type-C
The EG8200 V2 features an externally accessible Micro SD card slot, making it easier for field engineers to access and maintain the storage media. The device continues to support local data storage and related data processing functions to meet data management needs in industrial environments.
The V2 replaces the original USB Type-A interface with a USB Type-C debug port. Its reversible connector makes physical connection more convenient during on-site debugging and maintenance.
2. Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity: Adapting to Modern Factory Networks
Different workshops in a factory may already have wireless networks deployed. For a new industrial gateway, connecting to an existing network is often more convenient than laying new communication cables. The EG8200 V2 upgrades the wireless communication standard from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax), while retaining dual-band 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz and AP/STA mode.
In addition to Wi-Fi, the EG8200 V2 also provides 4G Cat.4 and Ethernet communication options, allowing system integrators to choose the appropriate networking method based on the on-site network infrastructure, equipment installation locations, and project requirements.
Typical Industrial Equipment Connectivity Architecture

The EG8200 V2 can be deployed between industrial equipment and upper-level monitoring systems, connecting PLCs, CNC machines, and other field devices through supported industrial communication interfaces. The gateway can perform data acquisition, processing, and protocol conversion locally, and transmit data to compatible industrial monitoring or IoT platforms over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or 4G. This architecture provides a unified access method for data integration across different industrial devices and can be configured according to the types of field devices and platform interface requirements.
3. Upgrade Summary: Expanding Industrial Data Connectivity
The EG8200 V2 upgrade goes beyond individual hardware improvements. By introducing CNC protocol support alongside upgraded processing hardware, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and more accessible maintenance interfaces, it expands the gateway’s capabilities for industrial data integration.
For manufacturers, EG8200 V2 provides additional options for connecting existing CNC machines, PLCs, and other industrial equipment to centralized monitoring and management systems. For system integrators, it offers a flexible platform for developing customized data acquisition, protocol conversion, and industrial IoT integration solutions using Node-RED and supported industrial communication protocols.
