The EG8208 is an industrial-grade 8-Port RS485 Edge Gateway designed for multi-device industrial networking in demanding environments. It enables bidirectional transparent data transmission between RS485 and Ethernet, while supporting Modbus RTU to TCP conversion, multi-host polling, and user-defined JSON data reporting for flexible integration.

Multi-Protocol Support

This gateway supports standard industrial protocols, including Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA/DA, HJ212, and IEC104, enabling seamless integration with SCADA systems, cloud platforms, and other third-party applications.
For non-standard protocols, custom parsing and logic can be implemented using JavaScript (JS).

8-Channel Independent Power Supply

8-channel independent power supply for sensors. The external power supply voltage is equal to the gateway power supply voltage. The maximum current per channel is 1A, and the maximum total current is 4A.

Encryption Transmission

Use two-way certificate verification + SSL encryption transmission mechanism to ensure data security. Transmission protocols such as TCP, HTTP, and MQTT can all achieve anti-eavesdropping, anti-tampering, and anti-impersonation.

Drag & Drop Programming

Built on Node-RED drag-and-drop visual programming, EG8208 supports all traditional serial server functions without communication restrictions. It enables users to customize data formats and logic, seamlessly integrating sensors and third-party platforms via MQTT/JSON to build simple, flexible, and efficient IoT automation workflows.


Multiple Working Modes

1. TCP Server

Monitor the set port and wait for a TCP client connection. Transmit the data sent by the serial device transparently to all successfully connected client-side.

Initiate a TCP connection to the set IP address. lf fail, EG8208 will continue to try to reconnect until it succeeds. lf connect well, the server can transparently transmit data bidirectionally with the serial port device.

3. UDP Mode

Send the serial device data to the specified lP network device via UDP mode. EG8208 also monitors the port and forwards all received data to the serial device.

4. MQTT Mode

Support communication between serial data and servers through the MQTT protocol.

8-Port RS485 Edge Gateway Applications

1. Multi-Channel Serial Device Centralized Collection and Reporting

This is the most typical application of the EG8208 8-Port RS485 edge gateway. In smart water, environmental monitoring, and smart agriculture, there are often numerous distributed 485 devices on site, such as flow meters, water quality sensors, and weather stations. The EG8208 can connect all these devices in one go, collect and process the data centrally, and upload it to the cloud platform or data center via 4G or wired network.

2. Industrial On-Site Protocol Conversion and Data Integration

The gateway comes with a rich protocol library, supporting industry protocols such as Modbus, DLT645, and CJ188. It also supports communication protocols of mainstream PLCs, including Siemens and Mitsubishi. The EG8208 can convert data from different protocols into a unified format (e.g., MQTT, HTTP), making it easy to interface with upper-level systems such as MES and SCADA.

3. Networking with IO Acquisition Terminals to Build a Distributed System

The EG8208 can act as a central gateway and network with multiple remote IO acquisition terminals like the ET3410 via the MQTT protocol, forming a distributed monitoring system with wider coverage and enabling remote access to distributed digital and analog signals.
